Somali Women's Light Organization

Formaly Arawelo Woman Organization

Background

Somali Women's Light Organization (SWL-FOUNDATION) is a non-governmental entity headquartered in Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubaland State of Somalia. Recognizing the pressing demands of its inception, SWL-FOUNDATION was established in 2019 and is officially registered as a humanitarian organization with the Ministry of Planning, International Relations, and Humanitarian Affairs of Jubaland State, Somalia. The organization promotes and supports the rights and well-being of women and girls in Somalia, working towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society where all individuals have equal opportunities to thrive and succeed. Through various programs and initiatives, the organization aims to empower women and girls, advocate for their rights, and address the systemic barriers that prevent them from fully participating in society. The organization also engages in social development initiatives, focusing on human rights and education. Key areas of our work include promoting gender equality, bolstering educational opportunities, and advancing health and sanitation measures. We are deeply committed to empowering vulnerable groups, offering protection against gender-based violence (GBV), and fostering peace-building and child protection services.
